Unlike most calligraphy books, The Art of Calligraphy covers the history of each style and presents example documents that typify each hand and its presentation. Especially helpful are the color photos of each stroke for each letter, made in semi-transparent ink to fully illuminate the complex structure of every letter. I've pored over almost every calligraphy book currently in print, and this is by far the best. Thanks to the Seattle Public Library for making me aware of this one!
